Brush Lettering

I've been in awe of some of the handwriting I've seen in various Traveler's notebooks. It seems to have become an art form in its own right!

I looked up some book reviews and found one called 'The Ultimate Brush Lettering Guide' written by Peggy Dean.

I also picked up a Tombow N15 double sided pen in black from ebay.  It has a soft brush nib on one side and a hard nib on the other.  I had read the hard nib is best for beginners and the soft brush for intermediate/professionals.

I've only had the book for a couple of weeks and try and practice when I can. Here is the result of today's practice:

In all honesty, you may not notice much difference between the two nibs but if you're obsessed with attention to detail as I am(!), you might agree with me that the letters written with the hard nib are slightly better. This is because, as the reviews of the Tombow suggested, the hard nib is easier to control at least until you gain more confidence.  I'd suggest practicing on either tracing paper like I've done or photocopy the practice sheets from the book so you have plenty to practice with.
